Description
4 bedroom beautifully decorated 'Down East ' retreat!
This gorgeous, 2-story 1874 home is a perfect place to vacation, as it is strategically-located on the Island, has a large kitchen/dining area that is well-stocked, has a large yard, a wonderful back patio and also a special “picnic area” with 2 picnic tables next to the home. HOBO Retreat has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a convenient laundry room, and is well-decorated with a coastal theme throughout. We even made a special bedroom/bath with a Pirate Theme for the children! (We are child-friendly and have available 2 toddler stair gates, as well as a Pac N’Play and sturdy highchair, if needed. We apologize, but we cannot take animals, as some renters are allergic and we must respect them also.) Our “Retreat” is located 3 miles onto Mt. Desert Island, is 4 miles to Acadia National Park entrance/Visitor Center, and is a quick 10- minute drive to reach downtown Bar Harbor (where there is shopping, eating, excursions of all kinds, Shore Path with its historic homes and plaques to provide information about the area). Our home is also readily accessible to any of the 5 Harbors located on this island, each harbor with its own “flavor” and atmosphere. Available in HOBO Retreat, we have put together two special handouts for our guests: “Suggested Things to Do/Experience” on/off the Island, and “Recommended Eats” on/off the Island. Please view our photographs in this listing, as they contain pictures of this property, and a variety of photos suggesting things available to experience in this beautiful area! We hope you thoroughly enjoy your time on Mt. Desert Island, as it is very special, is a place to cherish and make wonderful memories with those you enjoy and love! |

The house was lovely, and every detail of decoration was perfectly comfortable and perfectly “Maine.” The kitchen was completely outfitted, and the porch and yard were great places to relax. Very comfortable beds and nice linens.
We loved staying in this beautiful home. It was well-stocked, clean as a whistle, and so close to downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We also were very happy with the strength of the WiFi, since the four of us were working our regular jobs during the day and had no issues. Check-in/out was simple and fast. Thank you so much for letting us stay, Bob and Heather!
It's such a beautiful house for a retreat. My family spends an unforgettable time there. Highly recommend!
Very comfortable home, the furnishings are lovely and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. The layout of the bedrooms is a little quirky but we made it work. The owner Bob was terrific to work with, he responded quickly to emails and provided excellent suggestions of things to do in the area.
Beautiful house. The only thing we didn’t like was that you have to go through a bedroom to get to a bathroom. That was awkward. Owner was very nice and helpful.
We had a wonderful trip to Maine. This home is lovely and fit our family of 5 nicely. It came with so many extras that truly saved on packing. Two things to pay attention to, I'm sure they are noted in the description of the home, one of the bedrooms does not have air conditioning and two the property sits close to Route 3 which was very busy during the time of our stay. If you are a light sleeper you may want to bring ear plugs. The owner was quick to address all our needs and the packet of things to do in the area was a great guide. I can not wait to go back to do more exploring. We would definitely rent this home again!!! Thank you Bob and Heather
Clean, cozy, quiet, wonderfully decorated. We would definitely stay with this property again.
The owner Bob was responsive and helpful throughout the process. The house, while smaller than it appears in the pictures, was charming, clean, well-kept, well-decorated, and easy to feel like home. Upon arrival, the closeness to the street was a potential concern for traffic-noise, but throughout our stay it was not an issue. The listing states there are 2 bikes in the garage for use, but these bikes are in need of a tune-up, so we decided not to use them. If using all bedrooms, one bedroom must be used as a railroad-style, as you must pass through it to get to one of the bathrooms. Aside from those minor things, this house is wonderful and provided a great home-base for my family to relax and enjoy our vacation in Bar Harbor. The kitchen and main bathroom are superb, large and well-stocked. It is close to some of our favorite places like Hadley Point and is a good location to explore Acadia National Park. Would definitely recommend this home to anyone, especially families.
Loved our stay! Beautiful, well appointed home in Bar Harbor. The accommodations were excellent. The home was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The kitchen lends itself well to cooking and socializing with friends/family. The deck is lovely place to enjoy a cup of coffee or stretch on your yoga mat. Lots of literature and maps on local attractions and points of interest. Hosts were quick to respond, gracious, and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Spotlessly clean. Close to Bar Harbor’s downtown area and Acadia. Right next to a busy road so a tad noisy at night, but we were all so tired from hiking that we slept through it. Communication from owner prior to trip was A+++.
