Magic Cabin in the Woods @ Homeaway Ranch

Vicky and Micky work hard to keep guests happy. I arrived right after Texas had record breaking cold temperatures, it hadn't been that cold since the 1800s. Naturally, this created some issues that were completely out of their control but Vicky and Micky worked hard to ensure all guests were taken care of. I wasn't able to get the cabin I reserved at first but they were able to move me into it a couple of days later. They worked hard to make up for the change in venue. Each of the cabins are a little different and have different stand out features. I was going to be working during my stay and the Lone Star cabin looked like a good fit. Its comfortable, peaceful, has good wi-fi and looks great. It is also set up well for a larger group. I loved the goats, pigs and donkeys freely roaming around. They are very dog friendly which was a major deciding factor for me. There are tons of add ons to cater to all kinds of experiences.

Perfect spot, perfect hosts, perfect stay. Our month-long experience at Home Away From Home Ranch was nothing short of magical and far surpassed our high expectations. THE CABIN: The cabin space is adorable. It is decorated with a rustic/out west vibe and has everything you need! The full kitchen is well equipped, Bathroom is clean and more spacious than anticipated, main bedroom has excellent wardrobe storage, and full mattress in loft space would be perfect for children. There is also good internet, a nice desk and large table for WFH or Zoom school. THE RANCH: HAFHR is heaven on earth! Friendly goats, donkeys, pups, turkeys, chickens, a pig named Bubba and more will roam right up to your cabin and interact with you. The cabins are spaced out enough for ample privacy and there is parking space galore. The paddocks are picturesque. With so many activity options, this place could never get boring. Do not skip the Exotic Bird Adventure — getting to interact personally with rare and endangered birds in their certified wildlife preserve is amazing, and the surprise at the end is fun for anyone of any age. The activity prices are fair for what you are getting and the activities are filled with thoughtful, personal touches. I wish I could live here 24/7, no kidding. This place is amazing. THE HOSTS: Micky and Vicky might just be the best hosts in the world. Trained at the world-famous Le Cordon Bleu in France, Vicky is nothing short of a master chef! She will completely personalize a meal for you, from everything from drinks to dessert. I am vegan and my boyfriend is not — she expertly navigated culinary creations that delighted us both. She takes all of your favorite things and truly creates a labor of love — the meals Vicky prepared us were some of the best of our lives. Come hungry — you will NOT want to miss her cooking!!!! (If you like Mexican food, absolutely do not pass on the chance for a home cooked authentic Mexican dinner, which was — no exaggeration — the best Mexican food of both of our lives, hands down. I am still dreaming about it.) Vicky is bubbly, thoughtful, and fantastic at what she does. As for Micky — as a full on cowboy, sharp shooter, horseback riding survivalist expert with an affinity for rare and endangered birds (one of whom can be pretty much constantly found on his shoulder, even while he is on a galloping horse...), Micky is pretty much the Most Interesting Man in the World. He is an exceptional teacher for horseback riding, shooting, animal interaction, survival classes and more. He is so full of energy and positivity! Vicky and Micky are two of the most charming and caring people on the planet. They took care of us through the winter weather crisis in Texas and always went beyond the extra mile. I cannot possibly say enough good things about these two. This is the spot you have been looking for! This place is truly one to the best places we have gone as a family. Every touch was well thought out and added to our getaway. Loved the cabin, super loved the animals and tour of bird sanctuary and farm, riding horses through the farm was a great experience for all. We wished we could stay forever! There are not enough words to say for what a wonderful place this is, thank you Mickey and Vicky!

Wow- Where to even begin. I had no expectations when I booked this stay but after booking, Vicky and Micky called to let me know about all the special activities they offered, which all sounded amazing, both for us and our 1.5 year old son. The property itself is beautiful. It’s a 35 acre ranch with a bunch of little cabins on it and even though there were other people around, we felt very secluded. Micky took us on our own private tour of the animals, which included horses, goats, donkeys, pigs, and an exotic bird sanctuary, and then we spent about 2 hours riding horses. I can honestly say it was an unforgettable experience for all of us. We will definitely return!

Vicky and Micky made everything easy. When we needed something they were always responsive and continued to proactively check in with us. The property was as advertised and we had a wonderful stay.

Such care and detail in all the activities. This was a great trip especially during the pandemic. Vickie and Mickie offer so many fun activities right on their property that we felt safe our entire time there. From horseback riding, to exotic birds, days old baby goats and private cooking classes it was an amazing experience!

Vicky and Micky are amazing hosts. Their hospitality went above and beyond. They are very kind and welcoming, upon arrival they were very kind. The stay was a beautiful experience, especially the exotic bird interaction!

I took my mom and daughter here for a girls getaway/Birthday Celebration. Micky and Vicky both went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Even a thoughtful gesture of making us a Russian Birthday Cake that was delicious. Delivered it to our cabin with a Birthday song. This place truly felt like a home away from home. We will be returning with family. The horseback riding was safe and Fun! Great memories were made.
